Aal dying is an age-old textile tradition native to the tribal communities of Chhattisgarh. This complex process of dying with the roots of the indigenous Aal or Indian madder tree is completely natural and even has a cooling effect on the skin. It imparts a beautiful earthy tone of red to the cotton yarn. The dyed yarns are handwoven into sarees and dupattas with strikingly simple motifs inspired by the natural surroundings of the weaver.
